چکیده

• A comparison between ten methods for computing the T 2 distribution was performed. Various regularization techniques and penalty functions were tested. Our findings demonstrated need regularization. list of recommendations selecting optimal algorithms provided. The implemented packaged in a freely distributed toolbox. Multi-component relaxometry allows probing tissue microstructure by assessing compartment-specific relaxation times water fractions, including myelin fraction. Non-negative least squares (NNLS) with zero-order Tikhonov is conventional method estimating smooth distributions. Despite improved estimation provided this compared to non-regularized NNLS, solution still sensitive underlying noise weight. This especially relevant clinically achievable signal-to-noise ratios. In literature inverse problems, various well-established approaches promote solutions, first-order second-order regularization, different criteria weight have been proposed, such as L-curve, Generalized Cross-Validation, Chi-square residual fitting. However, quantitative comparisons available reconstruction distribution, weight, are lacking. study, we evaluated algorithms, resulting from individual combinations three terms estimate plus NNLS. Their performance both simulated data real brain MRI acquired healthy volunteers through scan-rescan repeatability analysis. demonstrate As result work, provide based on data. Moreover, toolbox reproducible research, facilitate further research use promising technique clinical practice.

Non-Local Spatial Regularization of MRI T2 Relaxation Images for Myelin Water Quantification

Myelin is an essential component of nerve fibers and monitoring its health is important for studying diseases that attack myelin, such as multiple sclerosis (MS). The amount of water trapped within myelin, which is a surrogate for myelin content and integrity, can be measured in vivo using MRI relaxation techniques that acquire a series of images at multiple echo times to produce a T2 decay cur...

Comparison of Parametric and Non-parametric EEG Feature Extraction Methods in Detection of Pediatric Migraine without Aura

Background: Migraine headache without aura is the most common type of migraine especially among pediatric patients. It has always been a great challenge of migraine diagnosis using quantitative electroencephalography measurements through feature classification. It has been proven that different feature extraction and classification methods vary in terms of performance regarding detection and di...

A comparison of parametric and non-parametric methods of standardized precipitation index (SPI) in drought monitoring (Case study: Gorganroud basin)

The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is the most common index for drought monitoring. Although the calculation of this index is usually done by using the gamma distribution fitting of precipitation data, studies have shown that for accurate monitoring of drought, the optimal distribution of precipitation in each month should be determined. On the other hand, in non-stationary time series,...

Very High Resolution Parametric and Non- Parametric Sartomography Methods for Monitoring Urban Areas Structures

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the only way to evaluate deformation of the Earth’s surface from space on the order of centimeters and millimeters due to its coherent nature and short wavelengths. Hence, by this means the long term risk monitoring and security are performed as precisely as possible. Traditional SAR imaging delivers a projection of the 3-D object to the two dimensional (2-D) a...

T2 relaxometry of the hippocampus at 3T.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE T2 mapping is useful for identifying and quantifying abnormalities of the hippocampus and amygdala. It is particularly useful in the presurgical evaluation of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy and for the identification of bilateral hippocampal sclerosis (HS). The purpose of this study was to implement and validate a dual-echo method for producing coronal T2 maps with ...
